SM Town: My First Ever K-pop Experience

Last night I had my first ever K-pop experience. I saw an ad online about SM Entertainment bringing their famous artists to Dubai. I am not a big K-pop fan but I know what it is. Since I am type of person who wants to experience something new, I secured a ticket to the event. Who knows, I might end up being a K-pop addict like some people I know.

April 6, 2018, I reached the venue at around 3:00PM. People were lined up and the queues were ridiculously long. Few vendors were selling light sticks and fans outside the concert ground.

They started to let us in at around 4:30PM and the concert started at 6:00PM. Artists that performed were KANGTA, BoA, TVXQ, SUPER JUNIOR, Girls’ Generation, SHINEE, f(x), EXO, Red Velvet, NCT U, NCT DREAM, TRAX and HENRY.

I was really surprised when I heard familiar songs. Songs that I hear on local TV that I didn’t know sung by one of those artists. It was also surreal when people beside me who are native Arabic or Tagalog speakers actually sing along with those Korean artists. Music has really no language barrier. The efforts that they put into everything are beyond amazing. Every artist seemed to have worked really hard and gave all their best in every performance. They must have worked their butts off to give us the performance of their lives.

I left the venue at around 10:30PM with memories that I will treasure forever. It was a once in a lifetime experience and I’m already looking forward to seeing the next one.
