Sharing is Caring – Verde Island, Batangas, Philippines

Posted on Posted in Asia, Good Deeds, Philippines

Verde Island is situated along the bodies of Verde Island Passage between the islands of Luzon and Mindoro, Philippines. It was on 1988 when a small village was connected to mains electricity through the effort of a European project using technologies such as solar panels for the island’s self-sufficiency.

A team of marine conservationists declared in 2006 that the Philippines is the Center of Marine Biodiversity in the world and Verde Island Passage as the “Center of the Center of Marine Shorefish Biodiversity”.

My sister, Vivian Ramirez recently crossed the ocean to help kids in Verde Island (Isla Verde). She is the most generous and compassionate person I know. Let’s all meet her:

Hi. My name is Vivian Ramirez. Ever since, I have always thought of helping and giving children something that will make them happy. It all started when I was in grade school when I used to gather some younger children to come to our place so I can help them do some coloring and some sort of reading while I pretend to be their teacher. In high school, during Christmas time, I always made and stitched a small-Santa-stocking from the clear plastic cover and put some candies in and gave it to the children…and that brought me so much joy and happiness.

When I started working in a nursery in Dubai and went back home for holiday, I arranged a Sharing is Caring Project for the children. I bought some schools supplies, toys, socks, hair clips and etc. and cooked food for them and had fun games for them.

And recently, I extended my Sharing is Caring Project to other place which is Verde Island. I asked my friends and families to help and sponsor this kind of charity, and I’m lucky enough because they supported me.

Going there is very risky especially when the weather is not good. From the city proper, you have to take a Jeepney going to Dela Paz (a Barrio in Batangas, Philippines) for an hour, and from there you need to take a boat going to the island for about 20-30 minutes.

Sailing to the island was very smooth and the sea was very calm but going back wasn’t. It suddenly started raining and we encountered some big waves. But those things were all worth it because we saw beautiful smiles and happy faces of the children we helped.

It’s very fulfilling when you help other people. My sister is planning to help more kids and she’s currently gathering useful things for her next Sharing is Caring Project.
